Claude Code changelog

Release notes for Claude Code, including new features, improvements, and bug fixes by version. This page is generated from the CHANGELOG.md on GitHub. Run `claude --version` to check your installed version. Stacked slash-skill invocations like `/skill-a /skill-b do XYZ` now load all leading skills (up to 5), not just the first; SSL certificate errors now fail immediately with a fix hint; mid-stream overloaded/server errors keep the partial response with an incomplete-response notice; subagents cut off by a rate limit or server error no longer silently fail.

Rewind file changes with checkpointing

Track file changes during agent sessions and restore files to any previous state. File checkpointing tracks modifications made through the Write, Edit, and NotebookEdit tools during an agent session, letting you undo unwanted changes, explore alternatives, and recover from errors. Only changes made through those tools are tracked — Bash commands like `echo > file.txt` or `sed -i` are not captured by the checkpoint system.

Manage costs effectively

Track token usage, set team spend limits, and reduce Claude Code costs with context management, model selection, extended thinking settings, and preprocessing hooks. Across enterprise deployments, the average cost is around $13 per developer per active day and $150-250 per developer per month, with costs remaining below $30 per active day for 90% of users. Start with a small pilot group to establish a baseline before wider rollout.

Todo Lists

Track and display todos using the Claude Agent SDK for organized task management. As of TypeScript Agent SDK 0.3.142 and Claude Code v2.1.142, sessions use the structured Task tools `TaskCreate`, `TaskUpdate`, `TaskGet`, and `TaskList` instead of `TodoWrite`. The examples set `CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_TASKS=0` to keep showing `TodoWrite` for sessions that have not migrated yet.

Use Claude Code features in the SDK

Load project instructions, skills, hooks, and other Claude Code features into your SDK agents. The Agent SDK is built on the same foundation as Claude Code, so SDK agents have access to the same filesystem-based features. When you omit `settingSources`, `query()` reads the same filesystem settings as the CLI: user, project, and local settings, CLAUDE.md files, and `.claude/` skills, agents, and commands. Pass `settingSources: []` to run without these.

Achieving operational excellence with AI

Frameworks like Lean Six Sigma and business process management (BPM) first gained traction because they promised clarity in the chaos. Today, those time-tested playbooks are evolving as companies seek to embed AI into established process excellence methodologies. Teaching AI to run with the turbines

Some of AI's most consequential use cases are unfolding far from consumer-facing tools. In industries where physical infrastructure, operational continuity, and safety are paramount, AI is becoming a core operating layer. At Woodside Energy, AI adoption did not begin with generative models — the company spent years building predictive analytics, optimization systems, and machine learning tools across exploration, drilling, maintenance, and plant operations.
