Observability with OpenTelemetry
Export traces, metrics, and events from the Agent SDK to your observability backend using OpenTelemetry. When you run agents in production, you need visibility into what they did: * which tools they called * how long each model request took * how many tokens were spent * where failures occurred The Agent SDK can export this data as OpenTelemetry traces, metrics, and log events to any backend that accepts the OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP), such as Honeycomb, Datadog, Grafana, Langfuse, or a self-hosted collector. This guide explains how the SDK emits telemetry, how to configure the export, and how to tag and filter the data once it reaches your backend. To read token usage and cost directly from the SDK response stream instead of exporting to a backend, see Track cost and usage. The Agent…

Anthropic’s $1.5B copyright settlement approved; only 350 authors opted out
On Monday, a judge approved a $1.5 billion settlement between Anthropic and authors, ending the largest copyright class-action ever certified and granting the largest copyright settlement ever reached . Back in May, some authors fought to block the settlement , which was proposed after the court ruled that Anthropic training AI on books was fair use; however, its piracy of works was likely not. Authors opposing the settlement argued that lawyers’ fees were too high and authors’ payouts were too low. Hoping to avoid accepting the estimated $3,000-per-work payout and file separate lawsuits to seek higher damages, a handful of authors tried to opt out past the deadline. Read full article Comments

Halliday’s latest smart glasses feature a much-improved display
I was not a fan of the original Halliday glasses. The Gen 2 are better. | Image: Halliday I first slipped on Halliday's original smart glasses at CES 2025. I was not a fan. The glasses had a tiny, movable display window embedded into the frame that was incredibly finicky to see, and my 30-minute demo left me with achy eyeballs. It was an interesting concept with terrible execution, especially compared to the several other smart glasses on the show floor . So I was skeptical when a few weeks ago, Halliday reached out to say its second attempt at smart glasses was much better. Well, having tried the Halliday Gen 2, I'm happy to report these are better glasses. That secret display window is gone, replaced by more traditional but dis … Read the full story at The Verge.
